Last Day Spring Turkey Hunt

     Riley Holmes 11yrs and Matt Linderman 29yrs, both from the Gun Lake area, got these two tom turkeys on May 6th, 2012 the last day of the first Spring turkey hunt.

     Riley hunting as Matt’s apprentice is a first time hunter. She got her tag at Gillett’s Bait and Hardware with high hopes of getting a turkey. After spending several mornings and evenings hunting without any luck her hopes were dwindling.

     Then early Sunday morning while sitting in the ground blind, Matt began using a turkey call and out of nowhere came in two toms. Riley shot first hitting an 18.2 lb. tom with a 10 ¼ beard and 1 inch spurs. Then Matt shot his which weighed in at 22 lbs. with an 8in beard and rounded off ¼ inch spurs.
