Your Dog Can Help You With Health Issues
By: Martha Lopez
Dogs usually are more than just
excellent companions.
It is well known the enormous help
that the dogs pose to people with disabilities.
Nevertheless scientists continuously
find out with astonishment the numerous attributes these animals
have.
We know that dogs are able to warn
people with epilepsy when they're going to experience an attack, are
also able to detect some types of cancer, have a special level of
sensitivity to individuals with mental disabilities and now we know
dogs to detect diabetes.
How can dogs detect diabetes?
We know that our friends have really
special qualities, have an amazing smell, razor-sharp hearing, a
great vision and above all a unique sensitivity. Some individuals
with diabetes realize that their dogs have a bit strange behavior
before they experience a crisis because of illness. Their dogs were
alerting them that something was wrong.
These kind of situations triggered a
wave of research to confirm whether dogs could detect low glucose
levels as dangerous for diabetics. It would appear that when some
change will occur to our body smells in a different way and it is
this subtle change in our smell just what dog, with his keen sense
of smell detected.
Prepare dogs to detect diabetes
These special dogs capable of
caring for those who have diabetes are two types:
-
Alert dogs: are those that
warn when any irregularity in blood sugar.
-
Responsive Dogs: may not be
able to detect the change but are prepared to help the individual
bringing the medication or advising someone of the situation. By
not requiring any special sensitivity response dogs are the
easiest to prepare.
There are very few places where it
works to prepare these diabetes-sniffing dogs, and certainly is a
slow and difficult, but every day it grows the demand for such
special assistants as it represents a great help especially for
children suffering diabetes.
