Fishing by the
seat of your pants! by

Gun Lake is a fishing smorgasbord! Not only can you catch the usual panfish
like Bluegills, Perch, and Crappie; but the lake abounds with Bass, and
thanks to the efforts of the Gun Lake Protective Association, has been
regularly stocked with Walleye, too.
Since Gun is a big lake, you'll need a boat to reach those preferred fishing
holes. Watch a group of fishermen leaving for the start of a big Bass
Tournament, and you'll see amazing and fast boats of every description. But
if you're not inclined to purchase a power boat (and Pickeral Cove is a long
rowboat trip from the Allegan County Park!) - there IS another alternative:
Fishing Kayaks!!
There's a new breed of kayak out there, outfitted to cater to every need a
fisherman could have. They offer ample storage; incredible stability; easy
paddling; anchor deployment; rod and tackle storage; and the newest ones on
the market allow the fisherman to stand up in the boat! This is a huge
advantage for those who like to cast a fly; or for a better vantage point.
They're silent, lightweight, and don't pollute; and when you're done
fishing, your children can paddle them around for fun! The best part - they
can go where no power boat can go, whether very shallow, very rocky, or in
rivers where there's no boat ramp available. And when winter comes, you can
hang it on the wall in your garage. How simple is that?!
Many kayak manufacturers are offering specific fishing models. Jackson
Kayaks out of Sparta, Tennessee has 8 different models available, complete
with videos of each model

Cobra Kayaks have long been famous for their open-water fishing boats

Wilderness, Old Town, Ocean Kayak and Perception all offer fishing models,
too. If you question how stable a kayak is for fishing - just watch this
