Gun Lake History Article by Gayle H. McEnaney
The following article is taken from "Gun Lake Revisited", a history of the
lake from 1877 to 1983. "From Dancing To Skating"
The building (pictured above) was originally constructed as a dance hall in the 1920’s. Live bands provided musical magic for dance lovers and slot machines were placed outside for the gambling enthusiast. In 1930, roller skating replaced dancing and a new activity was introduced to the lake. Skate boys were employed to help people adjust the skates to their shoes and a snack bar was added. No information was found as to who built the original dance hall, but it was eventually owned by the Stiles Lumber Company. Copyright © Gayle H. McEnaney |
